Trinidad-born Janice Derrick came to live
in England at the age of sixteen. She
later pursued a four-year BA(hons)
Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied
Crafts at Sir John Cass, London Guildhall
University, graduating in 1996.
In April 1997 she received a Clerkenwell
Award from the Clerkenwell Green
Association which allowed her to set up
her business with valuable workshop space
near London's famous jewellery quarter,
Hatton Garden.
Over the last eight years the business
has grown steadily. Work is now exhibited
and sold not only throughout the UK but
also across the US. 2005 is already
being marked as a year of change for
Janice as she will be leaving England in
the summer and returning to live in
Trinidad, where she will continue to
design and make jewellery, much as she
does at the moment. Janice is quite
excited to discover how this move will
influence and shift the direction of her
work.
