Influences

Janice finds inspiration for her designs mainly from external elements, especially those that explore line, such as architecture and graphic imagery. Her love of photography has lead to many aspects of these influences being documented personally. Movement, geometry and interlocking planes feature strongly in much of her preliminary drawing, from which final designs for her jewellery develop. The later work of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as well as the Bauhaus were great influences during college and their hold remains.

A keen observation of people and life in general usually provides the final details on designs - the quality that makes the piece wearable as opposed to just being a beautiful object. Listening to comments from clients is also an invaluable source of information; more often than not these suggestions will be incorporated into new designs.

Subtle colour contrasts as well as strong textures are also important and the combinations of all these elements can often be seen in some of Janice's more adventurous pieces.
